The POSEIDON project was presented at the first meeting of the EU Network against corruption, hosted by Ylva Johansson, commissioner for Home Affairs, on 20 September 2023 in Brussels.
This Network was launched as part of the Commission’s anti-corruption package proposed in May 2023. It brings together national authorities, practitioners, civil society, international organisations, EU agencies, academia, and policy makers with the ultimate goal of developing good practices to build more effective anti-corruption policies across the EU.
During the meeting, our POSEIDON consortium partner Ecorys moderated a break-out session whereby participants formed a fictional Corruption Fighting Task Force. Their mission was to devise effective strategies and initiatives to combat corruption within seaports. Attendees were encouraged to share ideas and good practices to prevent organized crime groups that exploit seaports for activities such as drug trafficking and other illicit operations.
In line with the goals of the EU Network against corruption, POSEIDON seeks to establish an EU Public-Private Port Stakeholder Network, which will facilitate regular inter-port dialogue and cooperation, support the sharing of good practices for identifying and managing corruption risks, and also promote the spread of recommendations for establishing a common port integrity standard across the EU.
